Peeling silicone at corners, wall joints, and around the shower screen is a warning sign the waterproof seal has failed. Fixing it early helps stop leaks, mould growth, and damage spreading into nearby surfaces.
Peeling silicone usually means the seal around the shower has failed. Once that happens, water can start escaping into joints, corners, trims and surrounding materials, which is why it is worth fixing properly before it turns into a larger leak issue.
Silicone often peels when old sealant has hardened, mould sits under the bead, residue was left behind, or the shower screen and joints have movement that keeps stressing the seal.
You might see separation from the tile or base, brittle edges, dark staining, patchy sealant, damp smells, or water escaping onto the bathroom floor.
Once the seal is open, water can track behind screen channels, into wall-floor junctions, under finishes and into nearby materials, leading to mould, swelling and recurring leaks.
Fresh silicone should not be laid over failed material. We inspect the joint, remove the old seal properly, reseal neatly and tell you if there are wider shower leak issues involved.
